Eligible employees have the right to take Statutory Paternity Leave.
This is time off work given to employees when their partner has a new child.
It allows families to bond and lets parents share the care of their new baby.
You should have a Paternity Leave Policy in place for your employees.
This Paternity Leave Policy sets out the rights of an employee to take Paternity Leave in respect of the birth or adoption of a child and the applicable procedures that must be followed.
We recommend that you do not give this policy contractual status in any employment contract that you put in place.
Instead, reference your Paternity Leave policy in any contracts, making clear that the employee is expected to comply with the policy and that you have the right to update or revise it at your discretion and when you want to.
