Parental Leave Policy

What is a parental leave policy and when should you use it?

Eligible employees have the right to take Statutory Parental Leave.

Parental Leave lets parents take 26 weeks unpaid leave from work to spend time looking after their children.

You should have a Parental Leave Policy in place for your employees.

This Parental Leave Policy sets out the rights of an employee to take Parental  Leave and the applicable procedures that must be followed.

We recommend that you do not give this policy contractual status in any employment contract that you put in place.

Instead, reference your Parental Leave policy in any contracts, making clear that the employee is expected to comply with the policy and that you have the right to update or revise it at your discretion and when you want to.
