Letter of addendum to employment contract for statutory sick pay

What’s a letter of addendum to an employment contract for statutory sick pay and when should you use it?

On 20 July 2022, the Sick Leave Act became law.

The entitlement to sick pay starts on 1 January 2023 and will be rolled out over four years once the Act is commenced.

You should use this letter to advise your existing employees of changes in their employment contracts regarding statutory sick pay.

If you currently have no employment contracts with your employees then now is the time to consider issuing contracts.

Your Contracts of Employment must take account of the new statutory sick leave scheme.

If you already have a contract in place for your existing employees…

Then simply provide this addendum letter to all your employees advising them of the statutory changes to their contracts of employment covering Statutory Sick Pay.

You do not have to change the contract of employment directly for existing employees…

But simply advise them of the change.

it is important that you keep a copy of this signed letter on your personnel file for future reference.

This letter is appropriate for employees based in the Republic of Ireland.

It is important for employers to review and consider their contracts and policies to ensure that they align fully, at a minimum, with the new legislation.
